Jorge Rangel

Assistant Band Director

Biography

Jorge Rangel joins the team at Steele HS with eight years of teaching experience in the Rio Grande Valley. Mr. Rangel most recently concluded his time at Pioneer High School where he conducted the Non-Varsity Concert Band, the jazz band, assisted with the award-winning Diamondback Marching Band, led the brass studios, and taught beginner brass classes. Mr. Rangel began his career at Los Fresnos HS where he conducted the Non-Varsity Symphonic Band, the Non-Varsity Jazz Band, instructed the high brass studios, and assisted with the Mighty Falcon Marching Band.

Mr. Rangel’s Concert Bands have consistently earned consecutive First Division “Sweepstakes” awards since the Spring semester of 2019. His jazz bands have also competed successfully at jazz festivals across South Texas. Additionally, multiple students from within Mr. Rangel’s brass studios have been competitive in the TMEA All-State process, earning chairs at the region, area, and all-state levels.

Mr. Rangel is a proud alumnus of the Texas A&M University-Kingsville where he earned his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music Performance degrees. While at TAMUK, Mr. Rangel served as a drum major for two consecutive seasons with the Javelina Marching Band, performed as Principal Trumpet for the Wind Symphony, played trumpet in the jazz bands, the Kingsville Symphony Orchestra, brass quintet, and competed at the National Trumpet Competition with the TAMUK Blue Trumpet Ensemble.

Mr. Rangel is passionate about music education and takes great pride in helping students grow as musicians and individuals. In his free time, he enjoys exercising and spending time with family and friends. He is committed to lifelong learning and continues to seek opportunities to improve his craft as an educator.
